Texoma area residents, noted for their charitable ways, will have no trouble this year finding agencies deserving of their help.

The Herald Democrat will conduct its annual "Christmas Wish List" project to let the public know about the needs of local agencies to be able to continue providing their services to the community.

Housing homeless children and families, feeding the elderly and shut-ins, providing day care, offering mentors to at-risk children, sheltering abused women and children, and helping families in distress become healthy are among the services Texoma-area nonprofits provide.

These agencies are invited to send in their "wish lists" to be printed in upcoming editions of the newspaper. Remember, it’s a wish list, so wish big. Big hearts exist in the Texoma area and are willing to help big. Agencies that have wishes they’d like granted are welcome to mail, email or fax their information to the Herald Democrat.

Please include the title "Wish List" in the subject line of emails or faxes and on the envelopes of regular mail. The deadline for submission is Dec. 14 to ensure inclusion in the project. Requests received after that date will be published as space and time permit.

Individuals wishing to help, but who are financially strapped themselves, can fulfill the biggest need that most nonprofits have year-round — become a volunteer. Along with wish lists, each agency’s mission, activities and contact information will also be published. Readers are advised to keep an eye out for the agency listings to find the ones that strike an interest, so that they may volunteer and keep the holiday spirit alive throughout the year.
