"Anticipation is making me wait," I think those are the words of a song. They are also words that fill my head every day as we get closer and closer to the Herald Democrat Writers Conference at Austin College. Oct. 4 is right around the corner and the last day to register is Sept. 30.

I can’t wait to meet all of the people who have signed up to come out and learn more about the art of writing. And I can’t wait to meet (in person) the wonderful writers who have agreed to come and share their experiences.

Of course these last few days before the event are filled with dozens of details like getting copies of each of the handouts for everyone who registered and figuring out the schedule for everything. If we had to have flowers and formal clothes, I might think I were planning a wedding.

Thank goodness I don’t have to come up with seating charts or dance tunes. I just have to figure out a way to restrain my excitement, on Oct. 4, as I start seeing the people who have registered. I will be the woman saying "Thank you for coming" with a smile on my face that looks like it couldn’t be surgically removed. And I might be the one squealing when one particular attendee arrives. We haven’t seen each other since our days at the Honors Hall at East Texas State University (they call it Texas A&M at Commerce now).

Writing is sometimes a very solitary profession, so getting to see so many people who love it as much as we do is liable to give us all reason for a case of the "Cheshire cat grins." Please excuse this if it happens. We are just really happy to see you all.

For those who still haven’t signed up but want to do so, you may do so by calling 903-893-8181 or visit http://bit.ly/HDWritersCon.
