Now this wasn’t strange in itself as she carries a doll around with her like many little girls. But, she was going to day care. So, I said, "What are you going to do with the doll? You can’t take it to day care, right?"

"I am not going to take her to day care, but she needed her diaper changed and I wasn’t finished," she said. As she said that, she started pulling all kinds of stuff out of the doll’s diaper bag.

"I was wondering why she was naked," I said, "but you still haven’t answered my question about what happens when we get to day care. You can’t take her in there."

At this the little one who holds my heart wrapped around her little finger looked at me like I had just asked the most ridiculous question ever and said, "You are going to have to baby-sit her."

"Really?"

"Yes. You can keep her, and then I will get her when you come and pick me up."

"It is very hot in the car, and I am not sure if she will fare very well."

"You can’t leave her in the car," she said with such a horrified look on her face that I almost laughed out loud. "You have to take her with you."

I was going to Commissioners Court that day, and I could just see myself walking in there with a baby doll in tow.

"I don’t think that will happen," I said in a voice that I hoped meant business to her. "I think I will put her in the trunk. It is cooler in there."

"OK," she said. With the discussion of where LaLa would be spending her morning over, I thought I was out of the doll care business. However, just a few short minutes later we stopped to drop off my sister-in-law, and my doll saw someone she wanted to say hello to.

Quicker than most could bat an eye, the soon-to-be second grader handed me her doll and said, "You have to feed her because I have to go give hugs."
