Every time my husband sits down to play the piano in our home my daughter comes running, no matter how engaged she seemed only moments ago with a toy or game. Daddy’s playing is magnetic and magical to her, and he loves for her to join him. Sometimes, she squeezes onto the piano bench beside him to sing, sometimes she stands near and bangs along on the keys, and sometimes she dances.
This week, Tuck sat down to play and she began to dance. I walked passed them, watching her twirl, and she said with a big smile, “me and daddy are getting married.”
Somehow, these shared moments with her dad speak something to her heart of union. This most recent encounter with his playing and her dancing reminded me of this verse,
“The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV.
As I thought on this scripture, the Lord reminded me of His own response when His children worship Him. The Lord delights in our worship because He delights in relationship with us. Any moment that we intentionally focus our hearts on the Lord, delighting in His presence, causes Him to rejoice over us.
My husband loves to play the piano for his little girl, and I know it’s in his heart that he one day teach her to play. Likewise, I believe that the Lord wants nothing more than to be with His kids and to teach us His ways. Every time we come running to Him, it speaks something to our hearts of union.
“But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” 1 Cor. 6:17 NKJV.
