Colbert, OK - James G. Weatherly, age 89, of Colbert, Oklahoma, went to his eternal home January 6, 2022.

Born in Littlefield, Texas, on December 17, 1932, Gerald was the 4th child of 6 children born to Clyde and Brenos Weatherly. When he was a young boy, the family moved to Colbert, Oklahoma where he graduated high school. It was in high school that he met his lifelong love, Bettie White, whom he married in 1953.

Gerald was drafted into the U. S. Army, in 1953, where he served 2 years during the Korean Conflict. At the completion of his military service, he went to work for the Army Reserves in Durant, Oklahoma where he retired as a Major in 1965. .

Following his years with the Army Reserve, Gerald worked as a Purchasing Agent for the IRS. His assignments included Austin, Texas; Denver, Colorado; and Memphis, Tennessee where he retired in 1972.

Gerald was known for his love of God and family by all who knew him. His family's care and well being were very important to him; when a child or grandchild needed him, he was always there, without question or hesitation. He especially enjoyed traveling, taking his family on many trips. Gerald loved the simple life of living in the country, watching deer pass in the fields, visits and family gatherings with children and grandchildren (and those home-cooked meals).

Gerald and Bettie were parents of 5 children: Daughter, Vickie Varney and husband, Sam, of Colbert, Ok., son, Gary of McAlister, Ok. (deceased), son, Ronald and wife, Robin, of Cartwright, OK., son, Shawn and wife, Sally of Denison, TX., and son, Gregory of Sherman, TX. They are the grandparents of 20 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Surviving siblings are Pansy Sims, and brother, Billy Clyde. |Gerald was preceded in death by his mother and father, and siblings Charles, sisters Frances Gunter, and Janice Kent.

Public visitation will be Tuesday, January 11, 2022, 1 – 5 pm., American Funeral Home, Colbert, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at the pavilion in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Colbert, Oklahoma, January 12, at 2:00 pm.
