John Richard Hatcher III

Sherman - John Richard Hatcher III was born January 15, 1943 in Dallas, Texas. He passed away September 11, 2021 in Dallas, Texas.

He was proud to have served 24 years in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of E-7 Sergeant First Class. He served three tours of duty in Viet Nam and three in Germany. One of his assignments was helping to develop the Patriot Missile System while he was stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. During his years of service John visited thirty-seven different countries.

John had a strong sense of volunteerism, for which he credited his Mims grandparents. He was active in the churches to which he belonged. In the 1990's, he was named Grayson County Casa's volunteer of the year. At the time of death, he was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sherman, Texas.

John was preceded in death by his parents John Richard Hatcher II and Catherine Mims Hatcher, an infant brother, Andrew Frank, a sister, Donna Kay Holley, his wife, Suzanne Stewart Hatcher, and son-in-law, Lynn Holly.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Holly, son, John Richard Hatcher IV, and his wife, Missy Davis Hatcher, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, Emory Hatcher and his wife, Terry, an uncle, Edward Mims and his wife, Sandi, and many treasured cousins.

The family wishes to thank John's devoted friends, Morris and Charlotte Royal for years of love and concern.

Graveside service with full military honors, will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 1:15PM at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.

The family requests that any memorial gifts be sent to Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 3173, Sherman, Texas 75091.

Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.
