Rita Jean Fair
Rita Jean Fair passed away on Friday, September 10th at Texas Presbyterian Hospital in Allen. She was 84.
Rita was born to the late Frances and Angela Gwozdz in Rossford, Ohio on March 6, 1937. After high school graduation, she worked in the office at Libbey Owens Ford (LOF) Glass Company. She married Robert Fair in January 1956 and left work to become a homemaker/mom to their three sons. In 1968, the family followed Bob to open a new LOF plant in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada, and she became a cashier at a local grocery store. The family moved once again in 1979 to Sherman, Texas, where Rita continued working at grocery stores including Safeway and Albertsons. She enjoyed golfing, puzzles, crossword puzzles, bingo, and card games…especially if there was a little bit of money involved. She was a great cook, and the family enjoyed her Polish golumpki, pierogi, and kolaches at holiday time. Her maraschino and graham cracker cakes were family favorites, and no one could make apple pie like Grandma.
Rita is survived by her sons Gregory (Pamela), Robert (Lori) and Thomas (Griselda). She was Grandma/Gammy to six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Rita is also survived by her sister Nancy Turner, sister-in-law Norma Fleischmann (Henry), brother-in-law Ralph Hahn (Renee) and brother-in-law Norman Fair. Rita was predeceased by her husband Robert, parents, in-laws Murlin and Elizabeth Fair, sister Connie Hahn, brother Thomas Gwozdz, brother-in-law Charles Fair, and sister-in-law Patsy Thigpen.
