FORT WORTH — A woman was in custody Wednesday after she led police on a brief chase in the downtown area before she crashed her car into three other vehicles and a house.

The woman’s car went partly airborne after she failed to negotiate a curve and hit three vehicles parked in a driveway in the 4100 block of Wilbarger Street.

The car came to rest on top of one of the vehicles and damaged a small part of the house, police said. The woman was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.

Police identified her as Nolberta L. Vargas, 43. Tarrant County criminal court records indicated that she is from Arlington.

The chase began about 2:25 a.m. Wednesday when gang enforcement officers in a marked police car saw a 2008 Toyota speeding south on Henderson Street near Seventh Street in downtown Fort Worth.

Officers tried to stop the car, but it ran a red light at Henderson and West Lancaster Avenue, then headed east on Interstate 30, police said.

"Officers believed the driver was impaired and continued the pursuit," Lt. Robin Krouse said in an email Wednesday.

The driver exited at U.S. 287 and traveled south, increasing her speed, police said.

The driver took the Wilbarger Street exit but failed to negotiate the curve and left the road. Firefighters had to extract her from the Toyota.

Vargas faces a charge of evading arrest, Sgt. Steve Enright said.

According to court records, Vargas has been arrested 10 times since 1989, charged with such crimes as driving with a suspended license and burglary.

In Tarrant County, she was last arrested in April 2012 for criminal trespass in Arlington and was sentenced to 60 days, court records showed.
