1. What are your qualifications for this position?

My qualifications as Justice of the Peace, I am US citizen, and native Texas and Grayson County resident, and I have lived in Howe for 18 years, and I am over 18 years old. I have a business knowledge, to be able to deal with the day to day responsibility of the office, and a working understanding of government budgets. I have a working relationship with police, fire and EMS in this precinct.

2. Why are you seeking the position of Justice of the Peace?

After serving the city, school and county in several leadership roles I see this as an opportunity to serve Grayson County in a larger capacity. I have been Mayor of Howe for the past 5 years, or 2 1/2 terms, and in that role have done many good things for the city and county. The day to day operations are very similar to the duties of mayor, making the transition fairly easy. I feel that I have the knowledge and understanding of the position and with the mandatory training will make Precinct 4 a very good Justice of the Peace.

3. What are the most important duties of the Justice of the Peace?

The most important duties that JP’s do, I could say, is the court room duties, but that would be too easy. All the duties are equally important. There are rewarding duties, such as marriages, and re-entry when someone has been unlawfully evicted. There are also duties that won’t be so pleasant, such as or the duties as County Coroner, going to an accident scene, or a home death. Equally unpleasant, but important duties, the evections, and school related cases, truancy or misconduct. However, the day to day activities of a Justice of the Peace is the most important.
