Two earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.0 or more rumbled parts of Kansas and Oklahoma this afternoon.


The U.S. Geological Survey reported two quakes before 4 p.m. near Cherokee, Oklahoma.


The first measured a magnitude 4.4 at 3:19 p.m., about 9 miles east-northeast of Cherokee. A 4.0 magnitude quake followed at 3:54 p.m., 11 miles northeast of Cherokee, Oklahoma, the USGS reported.


Kansas residents reported feeling the earthquake in Hutchinson and from Wichita to Dodge City, more than 100 miles from the reported epicenter.
