The Sherman Fire Department is investigating a fire that damaged a vacant home Wednesday morning.

Sherman Firefighters responded to a call of a structure fire shortly before 9 a.m. at a house in the 400 block of W. Cherry Street, said Sherman Fire Marshal Jamie Baggs. About 20 firefighters responded to the fire and were able to get it under control in about one hour.

One firefighter sustained a heat-related injury, Baggs said. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released later in the day. There were no other injuries.

The house was vacant and had no utilities, so Baggs said that it is not immediately apparent what started the fire. He estimated that he will visit the house early next week to investigate.
