Call it spring cleaning for a cause. The Texoma Community Center will hold its annual recycling fundraiser Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at 315 W. McLain Drive in Sherman. The Center uses the yearly event to help subsidize its work to provide mental health resources, children’s mental health services and early childhood intervention across the area.

"The last six years, the events have been huge successes due to general public, school districts and businesses donating literally truckloads of items," said Volunteer Services Council Chairman Harold Wright. "This is the community’s chance to recycle all types of products and equipment. Your donations help ensure proper recycling of e-waste and save valuable landfill space."

Among the items being solicited for recycling are computers, cameras, scrap metal, appliances, office equipment, entertainment electronics, multimedia, portable electronics, video games, sporting goods, musical instruments, home and garden items, non-fiction books, toys, collectibles, pottery, cookware, glassware, dinnerware, jewelry, and gold and silver. Donations can be in any condition, working or not.

Those items not accepted for recycling are televisions, office or home furniture, paint, batteries, and hazardous materials. Donations of vehicles, ATVs, boats, and RVs will be accepted as well, but must be registered prior to the event at VSC staff will have forms for tax write-offs on hand. No fees are charged for recyclable items.

Those seeking more information on the event can visit or call the Texoma Community Center at 903-957-4865.
