Former Sherman Independent School District teacher’s assistant Amanda Askari, 37, pleaded guilty Friday to the 2nd degree felony charge of improper relationship between an educator and student Friday.

In April, police responded to a disturbance at a Sherman apartment complex. According to police, Askari’s husband found Askari at the residence with an 18-year-old student. The affidavit said that Askari and the student then attacked the husband. The teacher’s assistant and the student admitted to police that they had been having a sexual relationship lasting for several months.

Elijah Brown is defending Askari. A message left Saturday on his office voice mail was not returned.

Maximum sentencing for an improper relationship between an educator and a student is up to 20 years in prison. Sentencing is set for September 11.
