Last week I, along with much of the world, watched in gleeful anticipation for the launching of the SpaceX Crew Dragon in a demo mission to the International Space Station. This mission would be a monumental marker in a new era of commercial flight to space.

As the astronauts awaited instruction, counting down the minutes to their ascension, a final weather check from mission control would bring a big change of plans.

Though the astronauts could not see it, mission control informed them of weather unconducive for a safe departure and return.

“Scrap mission,” the astronauts immediately replied.

There was no hesitancy at all. Mission control saw something the astronauts could not and the astronauts, though fully prepared, were immediately compliant. Perhaps disappointed, and regardless of months of preparation, they understood the safety and success of their mission was entirely dependent on their cooperation with mission control.

The mission would have to wait for another day.

This year has in many ways felt like an aborted mission. The year 2020 meant for many, the launching of big plans and big change. What we’ve seen instead is some pretty bad weather. Many hearts have uttered a defeated, “scrap mission.”

However, Habakkuk 2:3 says, “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not [be late].”

You may have experienced disappointment in scrapping your mission this year, but right now, nothing is more important than your communion and cooperation with mission control. The Father wants to see you succeed. You and your mission are dear to his heart, but it’s obedience to His timing and voice that will mean success. Even if our only instruction is not to lose heart.

Though not when originally scheduled, the SpaceX Crew Dragon made its successful ascension only days later. This is a reminder that you will too.
