With the spring sports season cancelled by the UIL because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Herald Democrat is putting a spotlight on the seniors who had their high school careers abruptly come to an end.
College plans: Attend Midwestern State University to obtain my master's degree in Nursing.
Superstitions, rituals or traditions before or after competing: I always put Icy Hot on before every race and I always jump before getting into blocks.
Song or music that prepares you for competition: Anything high energy like hip hop or rap.
Favorite subject/class: Science and Math.
Favorite teacher and why: I honestly don’t have a favorite. I loved all my teachers and I had a good time in all of their classes.
Favorite coach and why: Coach Perryman and Coach Leverett were both my favorite because they both pushed me to be the best that I can be and they always believed in me.
Best teammate and why: My best friend Bekah Wineberg because she always supported me no matter what, cheered for me during races and pushed me to become faster. Not only did she push me to better myself in track but she pushed me to better myself during school and just life in general.
Best high school sports memory: Making it to regionals in the 4x1, 4x4 and 100 meter dash.
Best high school non-sports memory: Being a part of the PALS program. The class was so much fun and it taught me how to open up more.
What you love about your sport: Basically everything lol. I love how you can exceed in individual events as well as team events. I also love how hard track can push you physically and mentally.
Favorite sports movie and why: "The Blind Side" because I love that the family that took him in saw no color, believed in him as an athlete and pushed him to be the best that he could be.
Describe the Tioga Class of 2020: Very resilient.
Biggest lesson learned: Live everyday to the fullest and be humble. Don’t take anything for granted.
Biggest influence in your life: My parents. They have always supported me through all of my sports events and they taught me how to work hard at everything I do.
Athlete you look up to: Simone Biles. She always has a positive attitude and has a great work ethic.
Reaction to the season being cancelled: I was very disappointed. I tore pretty much everything in my knee right before regionals last year so I worked hard during PT so I could get back into track to try to go to state.
Message to your teammates: Work hard, have fun and don’t take anything for granted. You never know when the last time you get to run will be.
Message to your freshman self: Soak in every minute of high school because when they say it goes by fast, they aren’t kidding.
Thing you won’t miss at all: Waking up early for morning practices.
Thing you will miss the most: All my friends, playing sports for the Bulldogs and making memories.
