With the spring sports season cancelled by the UIL because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Herald Democrat is putting a spotlight on the seniors who had their high school careers abruptly come to an end.

College plans: ROTC at Oklahoma State.

Superstitions, rituals or traditions before or after competing: Me and my partner Colton Creswell always listen to "Five Pound Bass" by Robert Earl Keen on the way to every tournament.

Song or music that prepares you for competition: "Five Pound Bass" by Robert Earl Keen.

Favorite subject/class: Advanced Animal Science.

Favorite teacher and why: Mr. Bradley and Mr. McCullough. Both being my ag teachers, we spent a ton of time together in school and out of school and really grew close to both of them.

Favorite coach and why: Coach Ryan Hamilton. Never did I feel like a coach loved me as a person, a student and athlete more than coach Hamilton. Coach Hamilton was the brightest part of my after-game hugs. I’m going to miss seeing him daily.

Best teammate and why: Colton Creswell and Tyler Farris. I fished with both of them and we both played football together. I can’t count on any other dudes more than them two.

Best high school sports memory: After beating Brock in The Star and hugging my dad after I jumped in the stands.

Best high school non-sports memory: Talks with coach Bart Williams in between classes.

What you love about your sport: I love that fishing is an even playing field, you don’t have to be the biggest, most athletic, and having your best friend as your partner.

Favorite sports movie and why: "The Program." The best old-school, hard-nose football movie out there.

Describe the Pottsboro Class of 2020: One where we are all very close. Regardless of the situation we have always loved one another.

Biggest lesson learned: Everything great in life takes time, patience and diligent work. And to most importantly never quit.

Biggest influence in your life: My father. He’s always taught me that no matter what happens, the sun is guaranteed to come up tomorrow.

Athlete you look up to: Dwayne Johnson. He’s always the hardest worker in the room and follows his dreams.

Reaction to the season being cancelled: We were devastated. This is our last year to fish and we had a good shot at qualifying for state.

Message to your teammates: Always remember that the hours on the water are long but the minutes fly by. Cherish those little moments of calmness because you never know when things will start to heat up.

Message to your freshman self: Don’t worry about the little things, those will always figure themselves out.

Thing you won’t miss at all: Getting up at three in the morning to sit on a 20-foot boat for 12 hours.

Thing you will miss the most: The non-stop laughter. You find a lot of ways to entertain one another when it’s just you and two other guys on a boat all day.
