Two people were killed late Wednesday afternoon when severe storms and a tornado tore through southern Oklahoma, impacting areas of Bryan and Marshall counties.

The victims were reportedly killed at and nearby the J & I Manufacturing plant in Madill. A third person is said to have sustained critical injuries as a result of the storms.

According to local NBC affiliate KTEN, upward of 3,600 homes and businesses, including some in Durant, were left without power.

In areas north of Durant, downed trees and power lines, as well as some roof and structural damage to homes and buildings, could be seen immediately following the storm and into Thursday morning as cleanup efforts got underway.

The Bryan County News will continue to follow and update this developing story.
