Oneta Ward, cherished mother and Nanny, joined her Savior in Durant on March 29, 2020 at the age of 90. She was the daughter of Hasting and Grace Widner. She was born on Jan. 12, 1930. A graveside service was held April 1, 2020 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera, 0with Bro. Jacob Toews as the officiant. Her pallbearers were grandsons Joey Hobbs, Steven Potts, Stacy Jones, Brian Beaubien, Jim Ward, Earl Ward, Steven Hiser, Kayle Ward and Philip Lemonnes as the honorary pallbearer.
Oneta married Lonnie L. Ward on June 26, 1948 in Sherman, Texas. Oneta enjoyed gatherings with her beloved family. She cherished all the members of her family and considered them the greatest blessings of her life. She loved her church family at the First Baptist Church in Calera. Oneta amazed people with her creativity whether it was cooking, sewing, or writing poetry. She also loved listening to Blue Grass and gospel music and travel.
Mrs. Ward is survived by her children Regina A. Beaubien of Durant, Deborah G. Odom and husband, David, of Durant; Kenneth R. Ward and wife, Ellen, of Coleman; and Mark E. Ward and wife, Terri, of Calera; her grandchildren Tamera Ogden, Joey Hobbs, Steven Potts, Cody Odom, Heather Cloupek, Dana Hagan, Stacy Jones, Monett Gordon, Brian Beaubien, Steven Hiser, Jimmy Ward, Earl Ward, Diana Weger, Kayle Ward, Kendra Minchey, Krystyl Baker and Destiny Noland. Oneta has 44 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many “adopted” family members.
Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lonnie L. Ward; parents Grace and Hasting Widner, and her sister, Phyllis Chesnut.
