A juvenile is facing felony evasion charges after leading Texas State Troopers on a high speed pursuit outside Bells Wednesday morning.

Texas Department of Public Safety Staff Sgt. Mark Tackett said at approximately 8: 15 a.m., a trooper patrolling U.S. Highway 82, just east of Bells, attempted to stop the male driver for a traffic infraction.

“The driver elected to evade troopers,” Tackett said. “He reached speeds of more than 100 mph on westbound U.S. Highway 82, weaving in and out of traffic. Ultimately, he went to turn through a ditch and crashed his car. He then got out and fled on foot.”

Troopers apprehended the juvenile near a residence along Craft Road and booked him into the Grayson County Juvenile Correction Center in Denison. No injuries were reported. The juvenile has been charged with felony evading in a motor vehicle and reckless driving.

It was unclear why the juvenile fled, but Tackett encouraged all drivers to stop and comply anytime they see flashing police lights behind them.

“Always pull over to the right in a safe manner,” Tackett said.
