A Van Alstyne man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly robbed the Dollar General store in Sherman Wednesday morning.

In an emailed press release, the Sherman Police Department said the 28-year-old suspect was taken into custody in the 1900 block of East Lamar Street in Sherman at approximately 4:15 p.m. He was charged with robbery after he allegedly entered the Dollar General, located at 1000 N. Travis Street, just after 9 a.m. and demanded money from a cashier.

“The white male suspect entered the store, communicated to the clerk that he was armed, and demanded money,” Sherman Police said. “The clerk complied and provided the suspect with a sum of money.”

The man was captured on video by the business’s security camera system, but fled on foot before officers arrived. No injuries were reported. It was unclear whether the suspect was armed, as he reportedly told the clerk.

Sherman Police Sgt. Brett Mullen said he was not authorized to provide additional information Wednesday evening.

Images of the suspect were circulated on social media hours after the alleged robbery and the department said it received multiple tips from the public regarding the suspect’s identity and location. An arrest warrant was generated for the man and he was booked into the Grayson County Jail.

A search of the facility’s booking records showed no bond information.
