Grayson County commissioners approved a request Tuesday that would allow all of the county’s courtrooms located in Sherman to be used in an upcoming moot court competition.

Ed Richardson, a local attorney and coach of the advocacy program at Austin College, requested that the 3rd Annual Kangaroo Brawl be allowed to use the courtrooms. The program has used the space in past years.

In his letter attached to the request, Richardson said the program will take place on Jan. 25-26 and will require the use of both of the restored historic courtrooms on the second floor of the Grayson County Courthouse and all five of the courtrooms at the Grayson County Justice Center. The competition will also require the use of the grand jury room at the Justice Center and the Commissioner’s courtroom and a meeting room at the courthouse, he said.

Grayson County Judge Bill Magers said the program draws participants from some of the biggest names in law schools in the country each year. No one voted against the measure.
