As the developers of Schulman’s Movie Bowl Grille work toward their goal of opening this May, Sherman officials are making plans for a new roadway that will be directly to the south of the Legacy Village development.

The Sherman Economic Development Corp.’s board of directors approved a resolution last month that dedicates 0.845 acres of right-of-way to the city for the construction of Legacy Boulevard. That roadway is currently under construction and will extend from the U.S. Highway 75 service road to a planned 250 acre mixed-use development to the east of the highway and the Legacy Village development on the southeast corner of the intersection of Hwy. 75 and FM 1417.

“We own some land that the city asked if we would give them a right-of-way across our land so they can construct that Legacy Boulevard,” SEDCO President Kent Sharp said. “So that’s what we did.”

The 72,995-square-foot Schulman’s Movie Bowl Grille entertainment complex is expected to include multiple bowling lanes, eight movie screens offering dine-in viewing, arcade and dining options through a Billy’s Grille and Bar. In addition to the entertainment complex, the Legacy Village development will also feature a large Lone Star Food Store gas station and convenience store at the Hwy. 75-FM 1417 corner where Sherman Fire Station No. 4 formerly sat, a hotel and convention center on the south side of the development and two smaller businesses along the Hwy. 75 service road that developer Mark Schulman previously said will likely be restaurants.

Sharp said SEDCO’s action shows the level of cooperation city agencies have with each other.

“I think it demonstrates SEDCO’s commitment to partner with the city to bring much needed infrastructure to parts of our city that are growing and developing,” Sharp said.

City staff said Legacy Boulevard is expected to be complete and open for traffic in May to coincide with the planned grand opening of Schulman’s Movie Bowl Grille. In addition to connecting with the planned mixed-use development near Legacy Village, Legacy Boulevard will also connect with a new north-south direction roadway to be built between the development and FM 1417. That north-south roadway is expected to be constructed at a later date.
