Motorists in Ector recently saw the addition of a new $7.3 million overpass at the intersection of U.S. Highway 82 and FM 898.

Texas Department of Transportation officials officially opened the FM 898 overpass across Hwy. 82 near Ector on Monday. Former state representative and current 59th District Court Judge Larry Phillips was on hand to cut the ribbon on the overpass along with Fannin County Judge Randy Moore, TxDOT Paris District engineers and representatives of project contractor Highway 19 Construction LLC.

In a press release announcing the opening of the overpass, TxDOT officials said the 420-foot long by 60-foot wide overpass that cost $7.3 million will provide “safe, convenient and accessible passage” for northbound and southbound traffic across Hwy. 82.

The release states work on the overpass began in August 2016 and was completed in early January of this year. Traffic was then given access to the overpass earlier this month.
