Sherman Police said a woman was arrested on felony assault charges over the weekend after she allegedly bit off part of her husband’s ear during an argument.
Sgt. Brett Mullen said officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East Park Avenue Saturday after neighbors called at approximately 12:30 p.m. to report an escalating fight between the 58-year old woman and her 65-year-old husband.
“They were arguing over marital issues and, during that argument, they began to struggle over a cellphone,” Mullen said. “The wife, or suspect, she reportedly bit her husband’s ear. The officers found the victim with a large portion of his left ear missing and observed him bleeding profusely.”
Mullen said the man was taken to an area hospital for treatment, but the extent of his injuries was not immediately known Monday. The suspect fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival, but Mullen said she was taken into custody a short time later.
“The suspect was located walking near the residence about three hours later and she was placed under arrest for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury — a second degree felony,” Mullen said.
The Sherman Police sergeant said both his department and the state of Texas follow strict enforcement policies when it comes to family violence incidents.
“Anytime we establish probable cause that an act of family violence has occurred, we shall make an arrest,” Mullen said. “We take it very seriously and we make every effort to protect victims of family violence in any way we can.”
