Texoma residents can expect to feel the effects of a cold front Monday that will bring temperatures well below freezing that evening. The National Weather Service’s forecast calls for high temperatures in the 40s and overnight lows below freezing for most of the week.

After a start to the weekend that saw highs in the mid 50s on Saturday, Texoma residents can expected it to be a little warmer Sunday with highs near 60 degrees. The NWS website states the high temperature Sunday is expected to be 58 degrees with winds from the west around five to 10 mph. Sunday night temperatures will get down to around 42 with more winds in the range of five to 10 mph and mostly clear skies.

NWS meteorologist Matt Bishop, from the Fort Worth field office, said the cold front is expected to bring the temperature down significantly on Monday.

“It’s nothing unusual for January,” Bishop said. “It will be cold and windy on Monday behind the cold front. We are looking at northbound winds about 20 mph. Dress warmly if you have any outdoor plans.”

The high for the daytime hours on Monday is expected to be close to 54 degrees with southwest winds ranging from 10 mph to 15 mph before turning into a 15-20 mph northward wind by the afternoon. The forecast states winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

The freeze will come Monday night as mostly cloudy skies are expected to bring a low near 24 degrees. Winds are expected to be northbound between 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph that evening.

Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to get out of the 30s with sunny skies and a high around 41 degrees. There are also slated to be a northwest wind between five mph and-15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

Tuesday night will be partly cloudy with the temperature dropping back below freezing thanks to a forecast low around 28 degrees. Residents can also expect a northwest wind with gusts as high as 20 mph Tuesday night.

The skies are expected to be clear again Wednesday with a high close to 46 degrees and south-southwest winds of about 10 mph. Wednesday night is expected to be mostly clear with a low again below freezing as the forecast calls for it to get down to 28 degrees.

Things are expected to clear up and be warmer on Thursday with a clear sky and temperatures up to 47 degrees during the day. That evening the forecast calls for it to be mostly cloudy with a low down to 31 degrees.

By Friday, the weather is expected to look sunny again with a high of 44 degrees during the day.
