A Denison man facing two counts of injury to a child will have to wait until February to see if his case can be cleared with a plea.

John Howard Arndt, 34, was set for a plea conference Thursday, but the case was rescheduled for Feb. 21 in the 15th state district court.

Arndt and his wife, Jennifer Anne Arndt, 35, were each indicted in October on two counts each of injury to a child after their 12-year-old child was taken to a local hospital with significant injuries.

Previously published reports show that Denison Police received a call on Oct. 12 from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services regarding a 12-year-old boy who was brought to Texoma Medical Center with significant injuries and malnutrition. The family of the child lives in a residence in the 1300 block of West Woodard Street.

The child was treated locally, but transported to Children’s Medical Center Dallas, where he was pronounced dead on Oct. 17.

The felony offenses that the couple faces each could result in a sentence up to life in prison. Arndt is represented by Sherman attorney Joe N. Smith. Smith did not immediately return a call seeking comment about the case Thursday.

Jennifer Arndt’s case is also set for plea conference in February. Her case in also in the 15th state District court and is set for Feb. 7. She is represented by Sherman attorney Richard Dunn.
