A Whitewright father and son were killed Monday outside Anna after Texas Department of Public Safety investigators said their car veered off State Highway 121 and crashed into a tree.

In an emailed incident report, DPS said troopers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash north of Anna at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday. The report said Chris Perkins, 34, and Kylan Krick, 8, were traveling northbound in a Chevrolet Camaro when the car left the roadway.

“Witnesses say the Camaro was in a passing zone and was passing another vehicle,” the report read. “For an as yet undetermined reason, the driver of the Camaro lost control. The Camaro traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.”

Perkins and Krick were pronounced dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
