Firefighters responded to a call of a vehicle explosion outside of Pottsboro Thursday afternoon.

A couple of people were working on a vehicle at their home in the 1900 block of Flowing Wells Road near Lake Texoma when the vehicle caught fire. The vehicle exploded shortly after and firefighters were dispatched from six neighboring departments.

Firefighters from North Texas Regional Airport Fire Department were the ones that put out the fire.

NTRA Fire Chief Tim Welch said the vehicle backfired while the couple was working on it, causing the explosion. The grass beneath the vehicle had been on fire, but with wet conditions, he said it was quick to extinguish. Nobody was hurt in the incident and no structures were affected. The white vehicle was charred with smoke damage inside and out. Welch said it was a pretty standard car fire and didn’t take long to get under control.
