Denison Police have identified the man who was fatally struck by a train on Thursday night.

Lt. Mike Eppler said Taylor Wayne Dotson, 27, of Denison was found deceased after train crews called emergency dispatchers shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday to report that they had possibly struck a man as the train traveled east of State Highway 91, near Commerce Drive.

“They said that he sat down as the train was approaching and there was nothing they could do,” Eppler said.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether crew members were able to activate the train’s brakes or horn prior to the collision, but Eppler said the crew reported that “there was no time to react.”

Eppler encouraged members of the public to exercise caution when near trains, regardless of whether they are on foot or in a vehicle. The incident remains under investigation.

“Right at this point, it doesn’t look like it’s suspicious,” Eppler said. “But we’re going to wait for a ruling from the medical examiner before we can positively say anything else.”
