Due to forecast bad weather, organizers for Denison’s Eisenhower Birthday Celebration have announced changes to Saturday’s schedule. The annual brick dedication ceremony for the Eisenhower Veterans Monument has been moved from Loy Lake Park to the Eisenhower Auditorium, located in Henry Scott Middle School.
The ceremony, scheduled for 10 a.m., will feature the dedication of new bricks that will be added to the Eisenhower monument this year. Merrill Eisenhower Atwater, great-grandson of President Dwight D. Eisenhower will speak on his great grandfather’s accomplishments, including the establishment of the Interstate Highway System.
Following the dedication, a USO show, presented by Shawnda Rains Entertainment Group will take place at the same venue.
Despite the changes, organizers for the event said that other events scheduled for the Eisenhower Birthplace will continue to take place as scheduled. These events include a classic car show, military vehicle display and free tours of the birthplace will start at 9 a.m. Birthday cake will be served at 1 p.m.
