Just one weak after its official opening, officials with the city of Denison will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house Tuesday for the new city hall building at 300 W. Main. The ceremonies will be held from 4 p.m. through 5:30 p.m. ahead of the night’s city council meeting.

Denison Director of Community Engagement Sunny Mackey said the public will be given the opportunity to tour the recently renovated building, which was previously the home of Denison’s Bank of America branch before its 2015 closure.

Following nearly three years of planning, construction and renovation, city crews officially started the move to the new building on Aug. 24, with city hall reopening at the new location the following Monday.

During its first week in operation, Mackey said there were few problems or issues with the transition. However, some residents were unaware of the changes and continued to go to the former building early in the week, Mackey said.

Following the open house, the Denison City Council will hold its regularly-scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. in which it will discuss the proposed budget and tax rate for the 2018-2019 fiscal year ahead of the Sept. 17 adoption. Other items that will be discussed include:

• a report on the disposition of a structure at 1119 aka 1200 Martin Luther King Dr.; and

• the proposed Denison Development Alliance budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year.
