Denison Police said a second person was assaulted and robbed by a group of supposed friends in a separate reported attack this week.

“We’ve got some strange friends around here, apparently.” Lt. Mike Eppler said.

The Denison Police lieutenant said the most recent incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Monday in the 300 block of Ballpark Loop, near Munson Park. Eppler said the female victim was riding in a vehicle with a number of female friends when they pulled over and several of the occupants pulled the victim out of the car.

“They pushed her to the ground, started assaulting her by hitting her, pepper sprayed her and then took her cellphone,” Eppler said.

The victim did not require medical attention and notified police of the alleged attack.

The incident follows a similar incident which happened in Denison just one day before. Eppler said that reported robbery occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Jones Park. Eppler said a male victim was riding in a car with a group of four friends when one of them punched him in the face and took his cellphone and wallet. An 18-year old man was arrested for robbery in connection to the matter.

“That’s a felony charge,” Eppler said. “When you use violence to take property from someone off their person, that’s a robbery.”

Eppler said investigators were still working to identify and locate suspects in Monday’s robbery and the lieutenant encouraged members of the public to socialize with only those they trust and to refrain from physical confrontation.

“If you have a problem with someone, don’t engage in a situation where violence is used as the answer,” Eppler said. “Really, violence is only going to make it worse.”
