A suspected drunk driver sustained injuries early Tuesday morning after the vehicle he was operating burst into flames near Pottsboro.
Texas Department of Public Safety Staff Sgt. Mark Tackett said troopers were dispatched to a stretch of Refuge Road, at approximately 4:30 a.m., to assist with what he described as a “crash scene.” Tackett said troopers found the driver, a 56-year-old man from Fort Worth, outside the vehicle with injuries to his lower extremities.
“When they got there, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames,” Tackett said. “The driver had exited the vehicle and had burns to his legs.”
Tackett, who was out of the office Tuesday, said information provided to him by at least one other trooper did not specify whether the man was hospitalized, nor did it detail the cause of the fire. It was unclear whether anyone else was in the vehicle with the man or whether the man was taken into custody or charged.
“Don’t drink and drive,” Tackett said. “When you go out and drink, always, always have a sober driver to take you home.”
