The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help locating the driver who fatally struck a pedestrian on U.S. Highway 82 early Thursday morning and fled the scene.
According to an emailed statement provided by DPS Staff Sgt. Mark Tackett, the incident reportedly occurred shortly before 6 a.m. between FM 901 and Whitesboro. The pedestrian, Brent Stone, 45, of Savoy, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The preliminary investigation indicates a black semi-truck tractor, possibly a Freightliner, was traveling west on Highway 82 when it traveled onto the shoulder to avoid a disabled vehicle in the roadway and struck a pedestrian,” Tackett said in the statement. “Witnesses state the truck was pulling a gravel trailer covered with a green tarp.”
The statement said the driver of the semi failed to stop and render aid and immediately left the scene.
Those with information regarding the fatal collision or the semi driver’s identity are encouraged to call the DPS office in Sherman at 903-813-3400.
