Two vehicles collided along U.S. Highway 75 in Denison early this morning, sending one injured motorist to the hospital in an air ambulance.

Denison Police Department Lt. Mike Eppler said the wreck occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. near the Morton Street exit. Eppler confirmed the air evacuation but said he did not immediately have access to information regarding the victim’s condition or the circumstances of the wreck.

“We’ve had probably 25 wrecks in the last 24 hours,” Eppler said Wednesday morning. “I don’t know the particulars on any of them right now, but I know we’ve had some injuries.”

Eppler said icy conditions on elevated sections of road were largely to blame for the numerous wrecks.

“The roads were pretty clear, but the bridges and overpasses have been pretty slick,” Eppler said. “I guess people had a false sense of confidence since most of the roads were in good shape. But then they hit that ice and that’s caused major problems.”
