The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office said a Whitesboro man was arrested last weekend after leading deputies on a brief, high-speed pursuit through southern Sherman.
Capt. Sarah Bigham said the pursuit began shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday when the deputy observed a potentially intoxicated driver near the intersection of U.S. Highway 75 and FM 1417.
“The deputy tried to stop the car and the person tried to get away from the deputy,” Bigham said.
Lt. John Holloway said the 24-year-old man hit speeds of more than 100 miles per hour in his gray Mitsubishi Eclipse as he headed south. Bigham said deputies temporarily lost track of the vehicle but caught up with the driver near the intersection of Hwy. 75 and Shepherd Road after the vehicle’s undercarriage began to smoke, causing the car to stall and eventually catch fire
“He was arrested for driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest,” Bigham said of the driver.
No injuries were reported.
