Changes are coming for Bryan County, Oklahoma readers of the Herald Democrat and of the Bryan County Shopper. The Bryan County News will replace the Bryan County Shopper, which is published by Texoma Marketing and Media Group, beginning Wednesday.

The new product will have the same advertising content as the Bryan County Shopper, but it will also have local, state and national news and will be more like a traditional newspaper in size. It will be carrier-delivered free to select areas rather than being mailed, reaching more than 12,000 homes in Bryan County.

“We’re thrilled to be starting a newspaper at a time when some may question the future of the industry,” TMMG Senior Group Publisher Nate Rodriguez said. “I think the Bryan County News will serve the community well — both advertisers and readers — as we continue to bring local news and information to a larger audience.”

TMMG Executive Editor Jonathan Cannon said the idea is to get more local content to readers in the Bryan County area and for that reason, locals in Bryan County are encouraged to email in news tips and news releases to

Bryan County subscribers of the Herald Democrat will receive it in their Wednesday editions.

“We saw a need to serve another community, and we already had a successful publication there that we could leverage into a news publication, so it was a chance for us to serve more news consumers and advertisers than we already are without starting from scratch,” Cannon said.

The Bryan County News will feature the new print design that will appear in the coming months in other TMMG publications.

“It is just a more modern, reader-friendly layout style,” he explained.

He said Bryan County News will feature engagements, weddings, obituaries as well as school news, and news about local government.

“It will be the one newspaper you need to read each week — delivered for free,” Rodriguez said.
