Sherman Police have opened an investigation after a woman’s body was found inside a grain elevator in the city’s downtown area earlier this week.
Lt. John Kennemer said officers responded to the Martinek Grain and Bins facility in the 300 block of North Lamar Street shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, after workers found the woman’s body. Kennemer said Amber Michelle Taylor, 40, of Plano, died after falling from an elevated platform within a grain elevator.
“It appears that a couple of people doing routine maintenance entered the area and discovered her,” Kennemer said. “Nobody really knows how she fell, but there was evidence to show that she fell from a platform that was elevated above the floor.”
Kennemer said Taylor was not an employee of Martinek and did not have permission to be on the property. The Sherman Police lieutenant said Taylor’s death did not appear suspicious, but added that the department’s investigation was ongoing.
“As it is right now, it’s being forwarded up to the CID (Criminal Investigation Division), so it is ongoing at this time,” Kennemer said. “By any means, we haven’t determined that there was no foul play, it just doesn’t appear that there was.”
