Denison Fire Rescue officials are working to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a vacant home on Sunday.
Capt. Cheyenne Henderson said, shortly before noon on Sunday, crews were dispatched to the 2400 block of West Elm Street, where they found the single-story home ablaze. Multiple crews attacked the fire, but were unable to save the structure. Henderson said investigators had not yet determined the cause of the fire, but at least one witness reported seeing activity at the residence before flames broke out.
“A bystander reported seeing kids playing inside and outside the house before the fire started,” Henderson said. “I’m not sure what the time frame was on that or how long after the kids were there that the fire got started.”
Henderson said Denison Fire Rescue Marshal John Weda was following up on reports Monday regarding the children’s activities on the property. The fire remains under investigation.
