A Denison man escaped serious injury Thursday night after authorities say he drunkenly drove his vehicle off a freeway and into creek.
Texas Department of Public Safety Staff Sgt. Mark Tackett said the 65-year-old man was traveling south on State Highway 69 at approximately 8 p.m. when he struck a guardrail with his Chevy Silverado pickup and left the roadway.
“He drove off the west side of the roadway, struck the guardrail, then continued driving south in the ditch and into the creek,” Tackett said.
The DPS sergeant said troopers arrived on the scene and removed the man from the car. Tackett said the man was taken to an area hospital by ambulance and treated for minor cuts and scrapes.
“He was released and booked into the Grayson County Jail for driving while intoxicated,” Tackett said.
No other vehicles were involved in the wreck. It was unclear whether any other occupants were in the pickup at the time of the crash.
