A Grayson County man was sentenced Monday to 14 years in prison for shooting his wife.

The woman survived the incident, which occurred in October of 2016 in the 400 block of Gun Club Road.

A police report from the time of the incident said Samuel Todd Towne, 56, fired out the window of a home. The shot struck his wife in the right hip, according to an affidavit.

The affidavit said Towne had stuck a shotgun out of the window to scare his wife. He said she grabbed the gun and it went off.

Investigators said that they learned through texts recovered as part of the case that the husband and wife had been arguing via text messages that night. In one of those texts, Towne wrote, “Hope you don’t get shot trying to break in!”

Towne’s court-appointed attorney Reggie Smith could not immediately be reached Monday afternoon.
