Firefighters battled a blaze that razed a vacant Howe house Thursday afternoon.

At about 12:03 p.m., firefighters were called to a structure fire in the 200 block of East Tutt Street. Interim Howe Police Chief Michael Hill said the caller reported that flames were coming out of the roof of the structure.

As firefighters arrived on scene, the structure was fully involved with flames on the southeast section of the roof. The fire was extinguished later that afternoon, and Hill said the house is a total loss. The house sat vacant for multiple years, Hill said, and the cause will be under investigation. He noted electricity was connected to the breaker head but not from the box to the house.
