The Sherman City Council will have the opportunity to make the planned annexation of 459.6 acres of land on Preston Club Drive official Monday during a special called meeting at noon in the coumcil chambers of City Hall, 220 W. Mulberry St.

A public hearing will be held on the city’s official annexation ordinance at the beginning of the meeting and then the council will consider the ordinance for adoption.

In a document provided to the council, city staff noted 78 percent of the property owners for the 331 individual tracts of land in the area signed the petition requesting the annexation.

The only other item on the agenda for the special meeting is a resolution to purchase the water and sewer systems for the Preston Club and High Country Estates that are being annexed into the city.

City staff previously said the annexation request was spurred by homeowners’ need for assistance with their water and sewer systems.

When the annexation schedule was presented to the council in March, it also approved an engineering contract with Freeman-Millican Inc. for the design of sewer main revisions, lift station construction and force main construction to serve the Preston Club area and the northwest portion of the city.
