A Fannin County man was arrested after he allegedly shot another man following an argument Monday evening.
Eric Philpot, 19, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following an incident that left 41-year-old Craig Thomas injured from a gunshot wound. Fannin County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Nick Tredway said deputies responded to a residence on County Road 4535 north of Trenton after receiving a 911 call at about 5:55 p.m.
Tredway said the caller reported that Philpot shot Thomas, and Thomas was being driven to the hospital by a family member. When deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect was still there, he said.
“What we gathered was that there was a verbal confrontation,” Tredway said. “Eric pulled out a weapon and fired one shot.”
Thomas was struck on the chest near the shoulder, Tredway said. Thomas was in stable condition as of Wednesday, Tredway said, and the weapon used was a 9mm handgun.
