In an attempt to flee from Denison Police, a suspect jumped into a lake but panicked and returned to shore and his arrest Monday night.
Police responded to a suspicious person call at about 7:40 p.m. at Waterloo Lake — the 1100 block of Waterloo Lake Drive. Officers discovered the man had outstanding Grayson County warrants, so the suspect ran from the officers, according to the police report. The suspect fled and jumped into the nearby water in an effort to escape police custody.
“He got into the lake and tried to swim away,” Denison Police Lt. Mike Eppler said. “He panicked and turned around and came back.”
Eppler noted the water temperatures were in the 40s, so the flee attempt probably didn’t last long. He also said there were no problems in apprehending the suspect after he returned to shore. Police arrested Timothy Eugene Wilks of Denison for the outstanding warrants and evading arrest detention, and his bond was set at $2,500.
