A one-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 75 Wednesday evening left one person dead in Denison and led to lengthy delays on the highway.

Denison police received a call about a wreck on Hwy. 75 at about 6:53 p.m., Denison Police Lt. Mike Eppler said. A 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling northbound on the highway just south of Spur 503 when it left the roadway.

“We still do not know why the vehicle left the road,” Eppler said.

The truck traveled through the median and went into a creek underneath the roadway, Eppler said. The driver of the vehicle, a woman, was transported to Texoma Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, he said. A female passenger was also transported to the hospital in serious condition, but her current condition is unknown at this time, Eppler said.

Eppler said the identities of the victims have not been released so that officials can notify next of kin. However, Eppler said both women were locals.

The highway was closed to northbound traffic for about 45 minutes while first responders cleared the scene. Traffic was then partially reopened with one lane passable.
