A two-vehicle collision in Fannin County caused the deaths of both drivers Friday morning.

A 2008 Dodge car was traveling northbound on State Highway 34, about five miles south of Honey Grove. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers said in a news release the dodge was driven by 62-year-old Rickey May of Wolfe City.

A preliminary investigation indicated the northbound Dodge crossed the center line for unknown reasons, striking a southbound vehicle nearly head-on, according to DPS. Lakisha Finney, 40, of Honey Grove, was driving the southbound vehicle, a 1995 Chevrolet car. Troopers were called to investigate the wreck at about 8:40 a.m.

Justice of the Peace Kenny Karl was called to the scene, and he pronounced Ms. Finney dead from injuries sustained in the crash, according the release. Mr. May was transported by Bonham EMS to the Paris Regional Medical Center. The release noted Mr. May was in critical condition, and he died a short time later at the hospital due to his injuries.

Trooper Mark Tackett said both drivers were wearing seat belts.
