A Sherman man was arrested for an attempted aggravated assault after the victim called police reporting her life was threatened early Sunday morning.


Sherman Police responded to a disturbance call from the 1300 block of Blanton Drive at about 1:37 a.m. A 32-year-old woman called police and said a man was attempting to retrieve a gun and kill her, according to the police report.


An officer responded to the scene and heard a man and woman screaming, the report stated. The officer also noted in the report of hearing a banging sound. Police conducted an investigation and arrested a suspect. Anthony Sopko of Sherman was arrested for attempt to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and bond was set at $20,000.


Police Sgt. D.M. Hampton said the victim was not seriously injured, but a fight occurred before police arrived on the scene. Police did not comment on the nature of the fight.
