Oklahoma investigators were called to the scene of a body discovered Friday morning in the Red River near Carpenter’s Bluff Bridge.
The body was located before noon near the Texas side of the river. Investigators from the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Denison Police Department, responded to the scene just south of the bridge down a steep hillside next to Carpenters Bluff Road in Grayson County.
“There was a call of a body found in the Red River near the Texas bank this morning,” Denison Police Lt. Mike Eppler said. “At this point we have investigators here — Bryan County Sheriff’s Office is in the lead since it is in Oklahoma. They have called in the OSBI for additional assistance.”
After 1 p.m., personnel from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office arrived on scene. Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the body or how the person died. Personnel from Brown’s Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma, were also at the scene.
“Right at this point, we have no positive identification of who the person is,” Eppler said Friday afternoon.
Earlier this week, DPD took a report of a missing Denison woman, Andrea Ratliff, 33, who has been missing since Tuesday morning. She was reported missing by her boyfriend, Eppler said, and the boyfriend told police that they had gotten into an argument Monday night and he left the house. The next morning he said she was gone, and he could not locate her. Eppler said police previously check her place of employment and conducted followups but could not find Ratliff. Local residents have passed out fliers and organized searches of the area looking for Ratliff.
“We have a missing person from Denison — we don’t know for sure if that is who it is or not,” Eppler said.
Carpenter’s Bluff Bridge was closed for multiple hours while law enforcement recovered the body.
