Maria Elena Allen, 84 of Luella, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022 at her home.
Maria was born on September 3, 1937, in Jomulquillo, Mexico to Ponciano and Guadalupe Perez-Acevedo.
Maria lost her parents at a young age and had to leave school to begin working in a local café. It was while working at the café that she met the love of her life, James. They lived in California for a while before finally making Texas their home. They shared 22 years together until his death in 1988. They shared a bond like no other and we find comfort knowing they are reunited again.
Maria and James raised three sons. When Maria’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was usual for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. But even by the standards of the era, Maria was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She loved being a mom and loved her grandchildren most. She was commonly referred to as Grandma Nina or Nana. She loved cooking for her family and enjoyed everyone being together. She loved her family. She had a contagious smile and loved everyone she met.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband. She is survived by her sons; Armando (Tiffany) of Sherman TX , Javier (Renee) of Flippin AR, and Robert (Tammy) of Sherman TX.
Twelve grandchildren; James (Tonya), Crystal Lynn, Jason, Lauren (Chris), Wanda (Joey), Courtney (Trevor), Jenny (Josh), Nick, Caleb, Katy, Lane and Jaycee. Seventeen great grandchildren; Demian, Ulysses,
Seventeen great grandchildren; Demian, Ulysses, Dolores, Darina (Justin), Jasmine, Brian, Michael, Taylor, Jacob, Colton, Raycie, Camber, Oakley, Addyson, Wesley, Ryker and Kyran. Honorary family; Scott, Frances, Jacob and Alex
Honorary family; Scott, Frances, Jacob and Alex Pelley, who she loved like her own.
Maria’s greatest accomplishment was becoming a United States Citizen. She loved her country and she was so proud Texas was her home. She loved her home, gardening and all her babies. She never ended a phone call without telling you, “Kiss my babies and tell them I love them.”
She was a true lady and will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 9, at Waldo Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at 10:00, Service at 11:00. Interment will follow at Cedar Cemetery in Luella.
